Hopes fade of eradicating hunger in region by 2030

GLOBAL Health organizations have reported that the ambitious goal to eradicate hunger by 2030 is becoming increasingly unobtainable as the number of people suffering in the region steadily increases.

Pandemic effects on the region

The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine, climate change, and the general economic slowdown have brought the fight against food insecurity to the forefront of global public debate. Latin America and the Caribbean is not on the sidelines of this situation.

Growing food insecurity

According to the latest Global Report on Food Crises, in 2022, almost 258 million people in 58 countries faced the highest levels of acute food insecurity, which includes the categories of “Crisis”, “Emergency”, and “Catastrophe”, meaning that it can range from malnutrition to the risk of death due to lack of food.
